History of the Happy Ranch Horse Farm

Mr. Sary Pann, the Founder of The Happy Ranch Horse Farm, is a Cambodian who had been living in America for 30 years. He grew up in Siem Reap, Angkor, and then worked for the US embassy in Phnom Penh for five years.

In 1975 when the civil war broke out in Cambodia, Sary Pann was given the chance by the US embassy to escape the war and was sent to California to start a new life. When he retired from his job in America, Mr. Sary Pann came back to Cambodia and bought one Cambodian horse. Very soon, he fell in love with horses and bought a second one... And a third one. Eventually, he decided he would build a ranch in Siem Reap, Angkor. 4 years later, The Happy Ranch Horse Farm is a beautiful and peaceful place, now accommodating 51 handsome horses and ponies including stallions, mares, and foals. Crossbreeding his own horses and respecting at least 2 and a half years before breaking them in softly, Mr. Pann has achieved to get strong horses, growing taller each generation. Mr. Sary Pann has always made sure his stables are maintained at international standard.

The Happy Ranch Horse Farm

The Happy Ranch Horse Farm was built and established in Siem Reap Angkor in 2002. Siem Reap is the world famous city of the unique Angkor temples. The ranch is located 2km from the center of Siem Reap and is the only western style horse ranch in Cambodia. Most of our horses and ponies are crossbred with Arabian horses; many are born and bred here at our stables. Our aim is to produce larger varieties so that we can cater for all riders.

Set on 10 hectares of beautiful Khmer countryside, around a miniature lake, the ranch accomodates 46 horse sand ponies , stallions, mares and foals. The facilities include a round pen, a 20 x 40m dressage arena, a horse preparation area, and 40 large clean stalls in the stables. We are fully equipped with European standard English and Western style saddles, imported from the USA and Europe. We also provide safety helmets to all riders.

    Lovely ride through the countryside

We did a family ride with Johnny who was our guide for the day. It was an overcast day and we even got a bit of rain while out, but had a fantastic time. The kids loved being on the horses and meeting the other kids roaming around and we were able to get away from the busy city and enjoy the country

Awesome riding in the beautiful Cambodian countryside.

I am sometime cautious when booking horse riding tours and have walked away from some due to the care of the horses. With The Happy Range you have nothing to be concerned about. The horses are very well cared for and the grounds are beautiful.

I completed a 4 hour ride starting in the morning and it was fantastic. We explored the Cambodian countryside at a walk, trot and gallop.

    Definitly worth the early start.

    Confidence for a novice rider

We were at the Happy Ranch Horse Farm in Siem Reap last week - initially our visit seemed to be short at first as my 7 year old daughter refused to get on the horse - however Mr Sary Pann’s marvellous team was on hand to be calm, caring and considerate with the situation. After leading her horse around the superb stables and slowly building up a rapport with her horse, she gained enough confidence to get onto her horse. We had a gentle walk around the grounds - so successful in fact m, that my daughter was keen to go back a few days later. We ended up on a 2 hour trek past the beautiful Lotus flower fields & past traditional Khmer villages. Both myself and my Daughter aim to return at the earliest possibility! Wonderful facilities, team, horses and owner!

I cannot say enough about this place. Do not miss this experience.

Many of us travel to Siem Reap to see the beautiful temples as I did, I was looking for something else to do other than wander around Pub Street and I happened across this place on Trip Advisor. What a wonderful unforgettable experience. This was life changing for me, to see the magnificent people of Cambodia and to learn about the culture and even a little of the language was simply amazing. The horses are gorgeous and well cared for, the stables are clean and comfortable and the guides are superb. My guide was Kong and he really made my day so enjoyable. Kong is a very experienced rider and guide, he has loads of local knowledge and is eager to learn from you too. I also met the owner of the property who was delightful. Thank you Kong and Mr Pann for creating such a wonderful place.

    Good horseback riding experience!

Went to The Happy Ranch for an hour of trail ride and exploring the nearby village. Got the early session which started at 5:30am for $38. As a beginner was actually expecting some safety briefing from the staff but only asked me to wear a helmet and ride the horse already so was quite scared at the start. The staff though was kind enough to answer ny queries and assist me. The 1 hour trail ride will show you not much, only the nearby village but still a good experience for me to do this activity in Siem Reap.

    In good hands

My boyfriend and I tried the one hour horse riding with Mr kong and his helpful colleague (sorry forgot the name!). It was our first time riding and i was nervous. However, Mr kong was knowledgeable, friendly and patient, he taught us some basic riding techniques, we had a great time!
